Four days of riding and a  3 night stay away - fantastic riding through South Gippsland. or

Our base will be the township of Meeniyan. I've done a deal with the Motel there and booked out the whole place with a 20% discount off the advertised high season rates for three nights. Meeniyan is a small town promoting itself as a gateway to Wilsons Prom. Apart from our Motel it has a great pub, a number of cafes and restaurants, as well as an IGA supermarket and a petrol station. It ticks all the boxes for a group ride. And because it's a high season weekend we'll base here and ride out each day. David, and Pete Zimm will be helping with the ride outs, planning Days 2 and 3.

Room options have been posted. Scroll below to claim a room.

The ride wil be led by PX - so get your 2-strokes ready.

The event picture is of Betty Nyguen. This picture was taken on a ride through South Gippsland 10 years ago. Sadly, Betty passed away earlier this year. This ride is in her memory.

Day 1 - Grand Ridge Road to Meeniyan. Saturday 31 October (in progress)

We'll meet on Saturday morning in Beaconsfield on the very outskirts of Melbourne, and that will give us a quick exit from the city into Gippsland. It will be a long ride in the morning across Melbourne for some so we'll be departing late.

Please have a big breakfast at home before you leave.

Meet at BP Servo. 215 Princes Hwy, Cranbourne 3807 (Some maps may pull up the suburb as Officer)  > Google MAP <

31152815476?profile=RESIZE_400xWe'll be there from 9.30am for coffee and the usual fast food options. Departure is 10.30am sharp.

Nar Nar Goon, Longwarry, Drouin, then we head south. The whole route on Day 1 is only 150 Kms, but it'll be a slow pace and with lots of stops to enjoy the scenery.

We ride the beautiful Grand Ridge Road which really sets the tone for the weekend. As the name suggests, the road primarily follows ridgelines through the heavily undulating Strzelecki Ranges. We'll stop in Mirboo North for a coffee / stretch / snack / refuel for thirsty bikes and PX,  before heading south again to our digs at Meeniyan arriving by by 3.30 - 4.00 PM. (Still working on this ride)

Accommodation - The Meeniyan Motel

The Motel has a spacious central outdoor recreation area and BBQ, and we'll have the whole place to ourselves. With the room kitchen facilities and a local IGA supermarket, we can easily accommodate local public holiday closures, on-site meals and partying.

"Just across the road from The Great Southern Rail Trail and a short drive to beaches, wineries and other local attractions, Meeniyan Motel features free WiFi, lush gardens, free on-site parking and a variety of room types. Guests enjoy an outdoor kitchen with communal BBQ facilities. Located next to the local pub, Motel Meeniyan is within 5 minutes' walk of shops, cafes and dining options. It is central to all South Gippsland attractions. Meeniyan Motel is 30 minutes' drive from Wilsons Prom National Park. The property is ideally located for exploring the Great Southern Rail Trail Bike Track, which is located next to the property."

Camping option

The Meeniyan Recreation reserve is available for camping at $10 per night. You just choose a spot and payment is via an honesty box. There is a toilet block, and a public barbecue facility. But it's pretty basic - no shower facilities, no power available. If it's your thing it's cheap and close to the Meeniyan Motel.

Activity Option: Great Southern Rail Trail. While you're here you may want to take up an option of a day of cycling on the Great Southern Rail Trail. It's a day 'off' your Vespa, but if you're a cyclist you'll have heard how beautiful this ride is. You can join the trail in Meeniyan, and there is bike hire (including electric bikes) available through our Motel, or the tourist office in town. Have  alook at the GSRT website if you are interested in planning arude,

    Hi Greg,

I can scout out a route through Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Archie's Creek and come back to you with suggestions inc photo ops.

Also, if you aren't already aware, there is a fantastic cafe in Meeniyan which is worth looking at for a group booking. It's very popular. They're open for dinner on weekends.

Hi Greg, I guess I'll take a bed in Twin Room 4 or in Triple Room 1. Being a very light sleeper I hope to share with other quiet sleepers please. Thank you, David
