This ride is to Indonesia. Friday is Kartini Day, and besides, I can feel some travel coming on. Given the unpredictable weather, this is a city ride, a 2 hour meander from Port Melbourne via Docklands, Appleton Dock. Coode Is, and ending up at the Nusantara Indonesian Festival at Victoria Market.

Suitable for all Vespa and all rider experience. If this is your first time riding with us then it's a great way to start.

Meet in Port Melbourne Station Pier. Have a light breakfast because we eat later, Coffee available at Mr Hobson Cafe too. Departing at 10.30 AM

We'll meander through the docks stopping for photos at some places you may have never been before - I love it around here. Bring your camera and enjoy.

We'll eventually end up at Queen Victoria Market for the annual Indonesian Nusantara Festival. Plenty of authentic food available from throughout Indonesia, and entertainment, including the sound of that hypnotic gamelan. Enjoy. Information.

Raden Adjeng[1] Kartini (21 April 1879 – 17 September 1904), sometimes known as Raden Ayu Kartini, was a prominent Indonesian national heroine from Java. She was also a pioneer in the area of education for girls and women's rights for Indonesians.

Born into an aristocratic Javanese family in the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, she attended a Dutch language primary school. She aspired to further education but the option was unavailable to her and other girls in Javanese society. She came into contact with various officials and influential people including J.H. Abendanon, in charge of implementing the Dutch Ethical Policy.

Kartini wrote letters about her feelings and they were published in a Dutch magazine and later as: Out of Darkness to LightWomen's Life in the Village and Letters of a Javanese Princess. Her birthday is now celebrated as Kartini Day in Indonesia. She took an interest in mysticism and opposed polygamy. Her advocacy for the education of girls was continued by her sisters.[2] Kartini Schools were named for her and a fund established in her name to fund the education of girls.

I have a nice little ride planned for you, exploring Port Melbourne, Docklands, Appleton Dock and Coode Island before we arrive at Jakarta airport. A bit of history, a bit of grunge, with plenty of stops for photos. So bring along your camera.
