A ride south to the rich volcanic landscape near lake Corangamite. It's not Mt Etna, but there are amazing views from the Red Rock lookouts. This is a small part of the great Volcano Ride others have spoken about, and it's a great chance for all of us to break out of the winter bunker. RSVP to this ride is essential - The Inverleigh Hotel is a popular small pub and we have to book a table.

This is riding focussed without many stops along the way, getting to Red Rock at 11 AM - and then back to Inverleigh. Melbourne riders will have comepleted about  200-225 ks by this stage. There will be 100 kph stretches throughout the ride. The weather outlook is great - a dry day with a coldish morning and a sunny 16 for the afternoon. Lunch is booked into the inverleigh Hotel for 12.30 PM. Please bring some extra food to snack on along the way in the morning, as it's a fairly solid morning of riding.

Melbourne early start - and Itinerary

Meeting from 7.30 AM at a familiar servo. The BP Truckstop on Geelong Road, Brooklyn (MAP) is that last servo before the road to Geelong and then around to Fyansford. There's good coffee and the usual fare here. Please breakfast at home, here, or bring snacks as we won't be stopping for a formal breakfast during the ride. At this time of day the road will be very quiet, so we will cruise down together at 90 kph, and in a group. It's exaclty half an hour between traffic lights. If you haven't done this before don't worry - you'll be safe and looked after. Layer up because it will be cold. Departure is  8.30 AM sharp.

9.30 AM - Stop at  Fyansford in the hotel car park. Toilet stop there, and we can meet up with any our Geelong area members joining us. Then to Inverleigh, refuelling at the servo, before Beeac, Corangamite, and the fabulous Red Rock landscape and the lookouts.

After we're done with pictures we'll backtrack to the Inverleigh Hotel. A very popular and warm pub grub. Menu. Please order as soon as we arrive to ensure we can get away again after an hour.

The Inverleigh Hotel is only only 100 k's from there back to Melbourne, and our return journey will be back along the freeway from Fyansford.

    Hi David

Sorry you can't join us but thank you for the lovely description and great photos. The weather tomorrow is looking like we might see some more blue skies.
    Cheers Julie

Such a pity I can't join you all for tomorrow's ride. The destination is wonderful and the weather looks excellent. Priscilla and I visited this spot near Alvie in 2015 on the way back home from Broken Hill. Red Rock is dramatic sitting on the eastern edge of the world's third largest volcanic plain which extends all the way to Mt Gambier SA and north beyond Clunes. When I finished sight seeing here and got back on my scooter for the final leg home, I looked down to see that Priscilla's speedo had just locked over 111,111 kms exactly. What are the chances of stopping on a serendipitous visit with that number showing? Have fun everybody, David

This ride down to the Red Rock volcanic views will be finalized tomorrow, but the weather is looking so good. Sign up on the event as we have to book seats for lunch too.
