It's a new year of riding so let's go! I am starting off my year with a repeat ride to Meredith and Steiglitz. I will also be exploring some different roads as I research a later ride down to the volcanoes near Colac. Done this one before? Do it again. New to the Club? This is a great first ride and suitable for all bikes. Some excellent roads and riding - it's time for some good stretches and to get those scooters purring. Calling you all out to ride!
Departing from the usual BP Servo, GL Road in Brooklyn at 9 am. Fill your tank here because we are taking the long way to Meredith. >Map and Visual<
We'll head up towards Ballan but switch back along a forgotten road to Meredith. Don't miss this (just found it today!) - just beautiful with some surprises around the town of Morisson.
Arrive in Meredith at approx 10.45 after 110 km. It's time for coffee, look around, and fuel top up.
Through the hills to Steiglitz. The second home of Sandy and John Dynon from the original club. We'll have a quick look around what was once a thriving gold mining town. Bring your camera.
Then it's down to the Anakie Roadhouse for Lunch arriving about 1 pm. It doesn't look much from the outside but inside there is a bar and cafe. It has a certain eclectic charm (!) It has recently changed hands again and it's friendly and well stocked too.
We'll get away by 2 pm and get back via Werribee to Melbourne at 3 pm. Err... do you really want to visit the fairy park? Please let us all know.
We'll finish the ride at Garazi Cafe in Yarraville and say our bye byes.
Ride suitable for all scooters and rider experience. A couple of 100 kph short stretches. Back roads - no freeway, just nice. Great first ride out with the Club if you are ready. Click the image below to view / download the route on Plotaroute.

Thanks Greg and the rest of the members for a great day out. I really enjoyed my fist ride with the club and I'd love to get to a few more. Hopefully we can do a few more rides "out west".
Same here Greg, interesting country roads, good peoples, what more could one want ,,,
Thanks for a great day out riding Greg. Something about today tells me that we must be living in Australia. A fitting start to another year of fabulous two-wheeled adventures.
Vespas and archaeology - what a nice combination Greg. It will be fun to stop and poke around. Should I bring a trowel? We rode through Morrisons on the Steam Rally ride but just corner marked at the Moorabool River bridge, then we rode straight up the hill towards Elaine. Where ever you cross the Moorabool River in this part of the world, it involves a scenic descent off the surrounding plateau into the river valley. Although not a very big river, it seems to have worn down the land over eons and all these river crossings provide a great riding experience - Elaine-Egerton Rd near Mount Doran, Egerton-Ballark Rd at Bungal, Ballan-Meredith Rd at Morrisons, Slate Quarry Rd at Meredith, Meredith-Steiglitz Rd, Sharp Rd at She Oaks, Russells Bridge Rd, Bakers Bridge Rd at Gheringhap and the Midland Highway crossing at Batesford. Perdrisat Rd at Maude is perhaps the most spectacular descent. Looking forward to the ride tomorrow and to humour you.
It's going to be a warm one tomorrow so don't forget to pack some iced water. See you all tomorrow and looking forward to some new members joining.
Cheers Julie
Darren we should be at the intersection of the Bacchus Marsh road and Nerowie road at 9.30 to meet the Melb riders
Come west young Pam and ride with your G'Town friends! Looking forward to meeting Maria II...

Ill be coming from the west (Lal Lal) so Ill meet up at the rendezvous arranged by the Geelong group.
I have maps of the area around Morrisons and my neighbour has a property there. Ill see what I can find out for you Greg.
Hi Riders
I am going to put up a slightly different ride map tomorrow.
_ I am searching for traces of the old town of Morrisons. Once a thriving village, but pretty much all gone now. There must be something there! - so humour me as we ride up some dead ends.
_ I will be changing the Melbourne ride home to avoid Werribee, and reconnect with the original outward route.
Looking forward to the country!
