The number of classic Vespas owned by members of our club is growing month by month. Some members own more than one. At a couple of events and club rides, geared scooters have even out-numbered their modern twist and go cousins.

We continue to celebrate these old girls and the heritage of the Vespa brand at the fifth of our quarterly Classic Vespa Meets.

It's been one year since we first offered this event and we return to where it all began for our winter meet thanks to the hospitality of Judi and Peter and their Alleycat Cafe in Canterbury. Peter Barclay owns a number of lovely old scooters.

2-4pm 5 July 5 2015

Penrite, an Australian motor oil company since 1926, is sponsoring gifts and prizes at this meet: 200ml bottles of Penrite Hy-per Semi Synthetic 2-stroke oil to pamper your precious machine. Thanks Penrite and thanks Rolf for organsing this great prize.

VCoM's Classic Vespa Meets are held regularly during each of Melbourne's four seasons and in the four directions of the compass so there's no excuse not to attend as we are coming to you. This event provides an opportunity for like-minded enthusiasts of older Vespas to socialise over coffee. Get in touch with other classic owners living in a suburb close to you. It's a great excuse to admire each other's machines, discuss various models, relate restoration stories, swap maintenance tips, learn about what tools to carry and how to keep your classic ride nice and reliable. There is a lot of knowledge within the club to help you solve problems and several members own specialised tools that help you perform various tasks when working on an older scooter. Technical manuals, history books about Vespa and other such paraphernalia will be available to browse at these events.

If your scooter is not quite ready to make an appearance, or you are unsure if it will get you across town, then just come along by car. Since the design of the PX has hardly changed since it was first introduced over 35 years ago, owners of these geared scooters are very welcome to attend as is anybody else who is curious about old Vespas. Even if you own a modern twist and go, come along and talk to somebody about what its like to own a twist, clunk and stall.

Thanks to all who attended our winter Classic Vespa Meet. An impressive turn out of much-loved Vespas with lots of character. Congratulations to the winners. Our thanks to Peter and Judi for hosting this event at Alleycat, to Penrite Australia who will keep many of us smoking along for miles, and to John Borg for the bubbly. See you at our Spring meet over at Yarraville in October.
