Hi Paul. Glad you could come. The greasy roads were a challenge for all, even the experienced. You have a great looking machine there and it always takes a while to sort out problems especially when you put a new kit on, so have faith that you'll get there. I heard you changed the main jet. Did that improve the fuel consumption? Sorry Paul, if I wasn't leading the ride we could have spent more time sorting things out for you. My old carb SI/20/15 used to chew through petrol. Although I replaced the needle valve in the float chamber, it still flooded when the fuel tap was off. I think the slide valve was also worn. When I replaced it with a new carb designed for a PX200 I got great fuel economy even though its got a bigger venturi and bigger jets. The motor runs really well now with a SIP Road exhaust. This is my setup:
SI 24/24E Main jet: 118 Air modifier: 160 mixer tube difusser: BE3 Main air bleed: 160 Secondary: 55-160
Thank you for your comments about today's ride. Congratulations to all riders old and new. The route was complex and the wet leaves and greasy roads, hills and curves meant there was potential for something to go wrong (had a nice little skiddy moment myself but no one was there to see it.) Everybody rode safely for the conditions and largely kept together. Fantastic.
The Dandenongs did us proud today. The planning rides were done on two perfect sunny days with everything looking fresh, crisp and bright. Glorious in its own way but I must say the weather today was a wonderful moody mix and the colours of Autumn had matured and were looking their finest. Thanks for painting that Autumn picture for us Craig. There was a section after leaving Menzies Creek when we turned off towards Kallista again. The sky had darkened when we entered the forest making it look gloomy and marvelously Hansel and Gretel.
For those who had to peel off early, thank you for making the effort to come so far. Sorry to have missed you Mike. The schedule was based on riding dry roads as a single rider. The wet roads and a technical problem made it way out of whack. And my apologies as the tummies must have been really rumbling by the time we got to Emerald Lake. I'll try to post some pictures now...
Great day folks and wonderful to meet new riders. Still have that glorious 'classic' image of david riding infront of me turning a bend on a sunlit steaming road passing through a drift of tumbling autumnal leaves. Magic. Thanks David for a terrific day
Sorry you missed us, we got to Emerald about 2ish and didn't actually leave until about 3 much later than planned ooops...but hey you got a lovely day to have a ride like you said. Catch you again sometime soon.
Home at 6.30pm phew long day but amazing ride. Brilliantly executed David and so nice to have so many first timers on this ride....just perfect. Weather shone most of the way, the autumn colors were on full display, picnic at Emerald Lake what a hoot David brought out the little camp oven and boiled the water so we could all have coffee.....where was Rob with the eskie......perfect match... Thank you everyone who came along and especially the ones who joined in and then trickled off to do the family stuff...now that is commitment hey....lol....
Once again David thank you for your wonderful planning the day was perfect.
