RIDE NOW FULL

The weather is looking good for next Monday so if you are itching to break out on your Vespa and are available for a weekday ride, then let’s celebrate the last of Autumn before winter sets in while there is still plenty of Autumn colour about. There are 9 places available on this ride which will be organised to conform to current CoVid-19 restrictions as outlined <here>

Description

This leisurely ride is perfect for confident beginners. All members are welcome but we would particularly like to see new members as well as those who have yet to get their scooters out beyond city limits. If you haven’t toured the Dandenong Ranges on a scooter before then you are in for a treat. We will be avoiding the main tourist roads as much as possible as we wind our way towards Emerald. Our route through the hills looks like a drunken pretzel as we criss-cross the west and east slopes of the Dandenong ranges. All this meandering will take us along some of the most beautiful roads in the ranges, past villages nestled in the hills with charming names such as Sassafras, Olinda, Kalorama, Monbulk, Kalista and Sherbrooke. We'll delve through forests of towering mountain ash and stringybark, buzz past quaint 1920s guest houses and gracious homes with grand European gardens and plunge into verdant fern gullies all the while breathing in the fresh eucalypt-scented mountain air. Hairpin bends, steep hills, thrilling descents and some short sections of dirt road will make us feel alive and invigorated. The mix of native forest background interspersed with exotic trees in their glorious Autumn colours provides stunning scenery.

Picnic Lunch

In keeping with social distancing requirements, please pack a picnic lunch as we’ll be taking our lunch break at an attractive outdoor picnic spot in the forest.

Ride Departure Point and Time

Dr Morse Cafe, 274 Johnston St Abbotsford. Park under the railway bridge which is also the entrance to Victoria Park Station. The ride will leave at 9:30 am sharp. Takeaway coffee might be available at the cafe. Please arrive at the departure point with a full tank of fuel as there will be no fuel stops on this ride. For those living in the eastern suburbs, a second pick-up point will be in the service lane on the northwest side of Heathmont shopping strip. We should arrive there at about 10:10am. Please let me know if this is your preferred option. To reserve your place on this ride, you must RSVP on this event page. Remember to pack that picnic lunch!

Latest Covid-19 Statement from the Committee - Organised Rides

The advice from Victorian apartment of Health and Human Services to the Club is that organised rides of 10 people can now occur and be regarded as ‘recreation’, provided that social distancing rules are observed and the club maintains a list of participants for possible future reference. So, the Club will be organising a number of limited ride events under these conditions:

    • The rides are open to financial members only, and up to 10 people.
    • Members must be registered as ‘attending’ under the event on our website. Members cannot just ‘turn up’ unannounced and expect to have a place. There isn’t an option of ‘might attend’.
    • Any pillions must also be Members and from the same rider household. This would count as two people. Make sure the ride organiser knows if you are bringing a pillion and using two places.
    • Social distancing of 1.5 metres must be practiced at the initial meeting point and whenever the ride stops. Rides will be organised to ensure that a meal break will give Members access to take away facilities or a packed lunch.
    • As the responsible Club representative, the ride organiser may cancel the ride at any stage if they consider the social distancing requirements are not being followed.
