What
Just 25-kms from Melbourne’s GPO as the crow flies, you can find some of the best two-wheeled riding you can possibly experience anywhere in Victoria. If that sounds like a big claim, then come along next Sunday and we’ll show you 100 kms of pure riding pleasure.
Description
We will be riding the rural fringes in the hills around St Andrews just outside Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Much of our route is on quiet sealed semi-rural roads with little traffic. This David ride is incredibly short (for him) but of course he takes the long 70-km indirect route to get our destination, Sugarloaf Reservoir. This dam was completed in 1981. The scenery along the way is very pretty and thanks to all the rain we’ve had recently, there is still an unusual amount of green about considering its the month of February. You’ll enjoy this leisurely paced ride on delightful narrow winding roads, many without lane markings, which take us past hobby farms, Aussie bush settings and mountain views. You may even spot a real hillbilly or two.
Picnic Lunch
We’ll have a packed lunch around 12:30 pm at the picturesque picnic grounds beside Sugarloaf Reservoir. So bring a hamper and drinks. There are tables and under-cover shelters. Bring a picnic rug if you are so inclined. Toilet facilities are available too. We are in no rush to finish lunch so just relax and enjoy the good company of your club mates. We will return you to Britannia Mall, only a short 30-kms away, where we’ll say our goodbyes mid afternoon.
Ride Departure Point and Time
Arrive at 10am for departure at 10.30 am sharp from our usual meeting spot in the east, Britannia Mall, 485 Whitehorse Road, Mitcham. Pull into the north side service road at the start of Mitcham shopping centre. Please arrive earlier if you need a coffee beforehand. Several cafes in the mall will cater for our needs. They can also make you a wrap or sandwiches for lunch.
IMPORTANT: There will be no fuel stops on this 100 km ride so please arrive with a full tank. Remember to pack that picnic lunch.

Would love to come but I've got a late night gig babysitting and after a full on day also with the girls I think a sleepin might be on the cards. 😂 Have a fabulous day and enjoy this amazing scenic ride everyone.
Just come back from a reccie in warm sunshine to untangle the confusing bits of tomorrow's ride. All sorted and untangled. On route I saw ducks, donkeys, horses and sheep and I'm certain if it had have been early morning or twighlight, I would have seen roos and wombats - just 25-km from central Melbourne. Amazing.
