Taking a Break at Coombah Roadhouse

The only thing on the 270 kilometre stretch of the Silver City Highway between Wentworth and Broken Hill, is the welcome sight of the Coombah Roadhouse. Thank goodness it was open otherwise I'd still be in the desert looking for fuel. Karen, the proprietor told me all about mineral sands. She had a small saucer of it worth $7. The truck train in the background is carrying hundreds of tons of it. The components extracted from the precious sands are are used in make-up of things as diverse as electronic circuitry through to dish washing liquid, she says. She should know because she can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about King Tut!
