How were the number plates fitted- by nuts and bolts of course- sorry I could not resist that. Have a look at the photos I just submitted and you will see them on the scooters. I am not an advocate of front number plates. If you look at the new photos you will see on the screen of my scooter 2 Australian transfers with the Vespa Club motiff. If memory serves me correctly the one with the silver edging was the Melbourne sticker and the yellow trimed was the Australian Vespa Club. You will also note, that on all Victorian pictures of the time, we all wore helmets as they were made compulsory in Victoria in January 1960. This was fairly unique in the world at the time. It explains why photos taken in other places are helmet free. I think they were not made compulsory in NSW until 10 years later. So successful was the compulsory wearing of helmets in Victoria that about 2 years later they actually halved the premium on the compulsory insurance taken out with registration, the equivalent of the modern MAIBs in the various Australian states.
