From Vice President Martin Wurt
"Hi VCM members,
The club is calling a special members meeting on 9 August to discuss important recommendations and issues being put forward by the VSRA (Victorian Scooter Riders Association) on behalf of scooter riders.
As most of you would know, along with being vice-president of the club, I am also the club representative on the Victorian Scooter Riders Association (VSRA)
The VSRA was established in February this year to give voice to scooterists in Victoria. The VSRA represents the 4 largest scooter clubs in Victoria - Vespa Club of Melbourne, Melbourne Crusaders, Lambretta Club of Australia and Melbourne Scooter Connection. The clubs saw a huge need for an association that just represented the interests and issues of scooter riders. Each of these clubs have a representative on the VSRA.
Prior to the establishment of the VSRA, the only bodies speaking on behalf of scooter riders were the Australian Scooter Federation (a body made entirely of commercial companies selling scooters) or groups representing motorcycle riders such as the MRAA (Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia).
The VSRA aims to represent the scooter riding community in decision making processes, dialogue with government bodies and in awareness raising campaigns.
One of the biggest impacts on the horizon for scooter riders is likely to be the recommendations that come out of the Victorian Government's Parliamentary Inquiry into Motorcycle Safety This Inquiry is due to hand down recommendations on 4 December 2012. These recommendations are likely to include compulsory safety gear for all riders including flouro gear and front number plates.
Unfortunately the VSRA was not established in time to make a submission to this inquiry. However the VSRA does want to lock down a positions paper on a range of safety issues and other directions that we want to pursue on behalf of scooter riders. In order to represent scooter riders we need to meet with you to discuss our position and reach consensus.
We are therefore inviting you to attend this special members meeting. We encourage all VCM members to attend and to give your views on a range of important topics.
Hope you can make it
Martin"

LOL glad you enjoyed the day Dennis can't wait to hear the serious questions.
I will be there to ask a number of leading questions.... mostly what happened on the Weekend ride to the Powelley Pub, I'm getting flashbacks on those lost hours on Sunday afternoon, like who spiked my drinks and who applied the face paint and the fake Tattoo's when I finally can out of my comatosed state you left me with the lunch bill, anyway the publican was good about it he tipped me off about how a group of ladies turned nasty and ganged up on an old man, I know who the ring leader is?.... they where seen leaving in a hurry on a white scooter. Finally I didn't appreciate the for sale sign on my Vespa and being told to ride at the rear of the pack. Wake in Fright!!
Is anyone else coming to this all important meeting? If so please mark your attendance.
Totally agree Julie, a very important conversation we as a club must take part in.
This meeting is very important for the future voice of all scooterists. It would be fantastic to see as many members as possible attend.
Thank you
Julie
