What
This ride has been organised for those riding up on Friday to attend Australian Vespa Days (AVD) in Wangaratta. It will be led by David on his 1979 P200E.
It will be a very pleasant off Hume Highway route using back roads. It will be a slower pace than usual as we have a number of 125cc Vespas along for the ride - and they are very welcome indeed.
The route is 245-km which means we won’t be able to make the noon departure for AVD event Friday ride outs. No matter as we plan to make this an enjoyable ride for all and can take our own time. It will include rest breaks and even a bit of sight seeing.
If this sounds like a solution for you, then please jump onboard and indicate your attendance so we know who is coming. If you are coming from afar please let us know with a post here as we can possibly wait just a little longer before heading off. We don’t want you riding on the Hume by yourself. If necessary you can call / message me on 0408833764.
Departure Point and Time
Gellibrand Cafe, 16 Gellibrand Crescent, Reservoir.
A few streets past Ruthven Station, turn left off High Street at Hobbs Crescent - Allenby Avenue, then turn left at the roundabout into Gellibrand Crescent.
Our departure time will be 8:30 am sharp. You’ll need to arrive by 8:00 am if you want a coffee beforehand. Although the Gellibrand Cafe has a great menu, we are thinking of having a formal breakfast stop in Broadford one hour later.
Woohoo! David.

Google Map versions of our route.
In case you are late and miss the start of our ride put these links into your mobile phone browser and turn on Google Map directions. If you’ve got ear pods you should be able to hear the directions as you ride along. The route is broken down into 3 sections. In section 2 there are two short Hume runs before and after Euroa. The first is 7 kms, the second is just 3 kms. Note that there is a Google glitch in map 2) that I couldn’t get rid of. At Balmattum Google sends you out to the west. Just ignore this and keep going along Balmattum North Road until you come to the T-intersection at Wilbrahams Road. Turn right. This is where you jump onto the Hume for 3 kms. Keep a look out for the next road on the left, (Quarry Road is on the right). Take this road (Mcdiarmids Road) to get to Violet Town. The roads around Boho are sealed roads but a bit bumpy. However they are very scenic and are lined with beautiful white trunked gums.

Welcome aboard Jacinta
Thanks David
we were thinking of coming back via King Valley so may join you.
Yes Athena, a few of us are riding back the long way via King Valley, over the moutains to Mansfield then to Yea. However the fastest (and safest) route back wil be the one we use to get to Wangaratta on Friday. I should imagine others will want to return this way too so keep an ear out and team up with others. See you Friday, David
Is anyone riding back to Melbourne on Sunday?
Thank you for letting me know Andrew. You may overtake us along the route, David
Thanks David. I'll be riding up with Sheryl from Geelong a bit later, so have a great ride and we'll see you up there.
Hello Andrew,
If you want to join us for the slow ride up then the places to meet would be:
1) the start point of the ride in Reservoir (87 kms from Geelong via the Metropolitan Ring Road, 1 hour 20 mins). We'll leave around 8:30 am
or if you miss us there:
2) at Broadford (146 kms from Geelong) where we will be having a 45 min breakfast break from 9:30 - 9:45 am.
This google map may assist your planning:
Geelong - Reservoir - Broadford 146 kms (2 hrs 10 mins)
