A great ride, very interesting. Thanks James for organising it.
Well done James. It looks like you had a fun weekend and your depth of knowledge of the area was greatly appreciated.

Hi All,
Thanks for a great weekend, never mind the rain.
Regards,
James.
We had a great weekend puddling around in the Latrobe Valley. James has an impressive store of knowledge about the history and workings of Victoria’s brown coal power generation industry. I think we all really enjoyed the lunch stop at Narkoojee Winery in Glengarry. The food was splendid. A particular highlight for me was the ride through the Narracan Valley via Coalville. I’ve ridden this pretty little road a few times. It would have to be one of the most idyllic roads in Victoria. James pulled over on this road to point out the site of a former railway station called “David.” Here I made a pact with fellow riders that “when I kick the can, bury me in ol’ Narracan.” On Saturday night we had the top floor of the Art Deco Traveller’s Rest Hotel in Thorpdale all to ourselves. Fortuitously the lovely bakery opposite the pub opened for breakfast on Sunday morning just before we were due to take off. Although we faced a day of soft drizzle that didn’t dampen our spirits. We visited a plague that commemorated the site of the world’s tallest tree a mighty mountain ash that measured 114 metres tall, 9 metres higher than the spires of St Patrick’s Cathedral. Sadly this forest giant was felled by farmer in 1884. Next we visited the old Yallourn power station site, its administration offices and the Brown Coal Mine Museum. It was a fascinating tour and a fun weekend away so thanks James for your insights and all the work you put into this ride, David
Hi James. Neb and I will meet everyone at the cafe in Newborough.
cheers

Hi James. I've put my name down for this event. You've included a rich range of experiences on this ride. I'm also looking forward to staying at the Traveller's Rest Hotel in Thorpdale as its a pub I've wanted to stay in for a long time. I'll message Jill tonight.
Ashley and Squeak, I'm thinking of riding to Moe via backroads on Friday afternoon. I thought of booking in at the Thorpdale pub for this night as well since its only 22 kms from Newbrough. Then again, I might stay at the cheapest motel in Moe at $110 instead. Hope others jump onboard as a weekend away with the club is always fun, David
Any members from the Melbourne area thinking of
attending this ride , Asley & I ( Squeak) will be leaving EARLY. Will post departure point before the event.
