Description
This mystery ride is even a mystery to me. However it will include some interesting stuff and it will be good. I hesitate to say ‘brilliant’ as I don’t know where we are going yet. It will be a shortish ride of about 140 kms based within the wider Melbourne metropolitan area. We should be back around 3:30pm. Intrigued?
Did a rehearsal ride yesterday and now I'm excited.
There will be a bit of adventure, some dirt roads and some bridges, because this is a ‘David’ ride. There will be some history too which will necessitate many stops. Oh dear, sorry about that. Hopefully we will visit some spots in Melbourne that we didn't know existed and together we will all learn something new about our great city.
Ride Description in Academic Speak:
This research project will examine the tension between Melbourne’s ever expanding suburban sprawl and it’s impact on the notion of the imagined “romantic-rural” or “pastoral-romantic” landscape. The project will be informed by the resulting dialogue between these conjunctions in time and space using the Vespa motor scooter as the prime research tool. This machine has been deemed the ideal vehicle with which to engage in the interrogation of the rural landscape and the built environment at the fringes of it’s interaction via a lateral transference through three dimensional space that it so affords. A qualitative approach to the resulting in-the-field observations will be collated in conjunction with breverages made from the genis coffea canephora to formulate various theories which might illuminate the prime research question “Why is it that native fauna such as the kangaroo, can be observed grazing between human dwellings in what is broadly described in common parlance as suburbia?”
Departure Point
We leave from one of our usual start points in Eltham at 9:30am sharp. Cafe Zen Den, 736 Main Road, Eltham. This cafe has has no signage so it's easy to miss. Park down the drive behind the cafe. Thanks Greg. I hope I can do those graphics justice. I might pack some weed to make sure we see the colours, ha ha
