La Dolce Italia is a major Italian event being planned for the Exhibition Buildings over three days on the weekend 10-12 August.

We have negotiated a special deal for VCM financial members on Sunday 12 August with free entry - value $35 - in exchange for exhibiting our bikes oustside the entramce. It's a great opportunity to promote the club, so we need as many bikes as possible to come along. Bring a pillion too! Special request from the organisers for Classic bikes to attend too.

Here's how it will work:

We leave the Convent Breakfast at 9.40 am, arriving together at the Nicholson St entrance to the Ehibition Buildings at 10 am to gain entry to the site. We will park our bikes on the concourse. There will be event security supervising.

Requirements:

Your bike has be 'on show' shiny (perhaps some extra Italian decoration) between 11 am and 5 PM. (We have to arrive and leave as one group). Your free ticket allows you access to all events inside the pavillion

For members not able to attend this time, the organisers will be offering all VCM members a discounted ticket for attendance at other times. Details posted soon.

If you are attending, please register your RSVP - if you are bringing a pillion please indicate - the cap is 30!

Benvenuti

After two successful years in the streets of Melbourne, La Dolce Italia will take centre stage into one of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings, the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. For the first time, La Dolce Italia will be over three consecutive days in August 2012.

La Dolce Italia will showcase the best of Italian food, wine, fashion, tourism, sport and art, all together under the one roof transforming the Royal Exhibition Building into ‘Little Italy’ for the duration.

There will be so many things to see and do, from fashion parades to food and wine masterclasses, from sport to arts and crafts.

No doubt there will be something for everyone.

    Important organisatiional arrangements.

    1. You must be at the Abbotsford Convent Bakery Breakfast, ready to leave at 9.40 AM. If you aren't in attendance, then your free ticket will be distributed to another member.

    2. Please shine up your bike. It's a celbration of Italian culture, so some additional Italian bunting would look great. It's likely that your bike will be filmed and photographed and appear in media.

    3. Your free ticket is valid for the 11 am - 5 pm session of La Dolce Vita. Additional tickets beyond these 30 can be purchased at adiscount online prior to te event. A special discount code is published on site in the financial members group.

    4. We need to arrive at the designated Nicholson Street Exhibition Building Gate by 10 am, more or less as one group. The Gate is boomed, so we will coordinate our arrival with the event organisers to facilitate quick entry.

    5. There is no right hand turn into the Gate, so our route from the Convent will be:

Left into Johnston and cross Hoddle

    Left into Smith Street

    Right into Gertrude Street

    Right into Nicholson Street

    Hard Left into the Gate

The logistics of moving 27 bikes to the event will need 2 or three leaders.

    6. The Club will be supervised into a designated parking display area, and there will be event security in the outside display area.

    7. At 5 PM Security will organise the group exit from the Exhibition Buildings site. That means your bike is committed for display until 5

  • Thanks to Frank and Dean for providing Vespa House t-shirts for those who put their hand to man our display on the day and hand out flyers and spread the VCM word. Nice little reward for those on the roster.
