8485181480?profile=originalThe ride really starts at 9.30 AM where I grew up - a weatherboard box in Oak Park, in the valley below Essendon.  I haven't been back to the 'outer suburbs since I left in 1975. We'll follow the route I used to pedal by bike with friend Alan up to Essendon Aierodrome. We rode up to big events - you know, the Rolling Stones arrived in 1966. Not that I could see anything as a little kid, but the chips were good! On the way we will pass the infamous trestle bridge - what is now a manicured park was once an exciting wilderness where rocker gangs trashed and burned stolen cars.

The tarmac, fenced waiting area, and the towers in the video are all still there. Member Karim will take us into one of the hangars (Hangar 86) there. You can still buy chips here too.

11 am We'll take a back door tour of Tullamarine Airport and out to the viewing park on Sunbury Road. It's right at the end of the runway, so with the right camera you can catch your bike and a jet overhead. Hopefully the ice cream van man is there for a gelati stop too. Just nearby is the historic Woodlands homestead and park, first established in the 1840s.  Perfect place for a wander and more photography

12.30 PM. Ride back through Tullamarine towards Niddrie, stopping for a short time at the AMX Motorcycle Accessory Superstore. What a fantastic place! I might pick up some new gloves to replace the ones I lost in Bali.

This ride will suit all bikes, and all members, and new members come along too. This is for you.

By the look of the pics everyone had a good day today enjoying a little of Greg's nostalgia...  14 riders, on what set out to be a day of grey rain threatening clouds, was a good number... kicked off by a delicious and filling breakfast at Minimo café then off on an adventurous ride to the airport district with a little bridge thrown in....

It was lovely to have two first time riders with us Neville and Tash and well it must have been good as Tash became the newest VCoM member lol.....and we look forward to having you both join us again soon.

We haven't got any further rides up at the moment so put your thinking caps on and feel free to post an event be it CBD or outer Melbourne weather permitting of course.  Maybe even a bowling event.

    Let the creative juices flow.

Thanks everyone for a fun day and I hope you all got home safely and dry....

    Cheers Julie
