Ride Description
This is a cracker of a ride with plenty of variety and a bit of adventure thrown in. It was originally planned as a ride for club’s adventurer group last year. It was a hoot and now we wish to open it up for our more experienced members who have no qualms about riding 30-40-kms of dirt road. We depart from Mitcham taking pretty back roads as we make our way towards Warburton. Just outside the town on the slopes of Mount Donna Buang we find The Archeron Way, a beautiful narrow forest dirt road that meanders through fern trees and tall mountain ashes. We’ll pass through Marysville before enjoying the quirky ambience of the Taggerty Cafe for a break. We will re-fuel in Alexandra then head for Skyline Road which provides stunning views from the hills overlooking Lake Eildon. Lunch will be at the Aqua Cafe and Bar which has an excellent outlook over the banks of Lake Eildon. We aim to be there at 1pm. Thanks to Pete for this suggestion. Near Thorton we will be opening a few farm gates to take an interesting track through private property. There is fast riding to be had back to Alexandra followed by lovely sweeping curves along Whanregarwen Road which passes through the picturesque Goulburn River river flats. At Molesworth we go bush on some little dirt tracks to see if we can find Chevoit Tunnel, a splendid brick arch tunnel that was once part of the Yea-Alexandra railway line. Pretty Frog Ponds and Murrindindi Roads will get us closer to home. The 340-km ride is packed with varied terrain and wonderful vistas. There and surprises throughout the route - a very rewarding day out. Check out the movie below.
Ride Suitability
This event is for experienced riders who like a bit of adventure. You are expected to have ridden in a variety of conditions and be comfortable riding on dirt and gravel roads. You also need to have the stamina to last the day over the entire 340-km route. If you find yourself getting tired towards the end of long rides, then this event may not be for you.
Date and Departure Time:

Meeting Point:
Britannia Mall, 485 Whitehorse Road, Mitcham shopping centre, our usual departure point in the east.

Comments
Ha ha Michael. Nevertheless that club really appeals to me. How do I join or am I in it already? I think this year the landscape may be green!
