Time for another run to a favourite part of the world. It's a club annual favourite, and beautiful weather predicted.
It's a pretty straight forward run, taking the usual way out of Melbourne. But instead of turning right to Bachus Marsh, we'll keep riding straight ahead, taking the road past Rowsley around the back of the Brisbane Ranges. The road through the ranges from Rowsley is quite beautiful but it's unfortunately unsurfaced, that's why we are going round the back! There's some interesting scenery, and a pretty steep incline to ride up. Then across to Meredith arriving at 10.45 am for a quick coffee and stretch. Top up petrol here too - no fuel in Steiglitz and the Anakie pump hasn't worked for years.
From Meredith it's a short ride into the old gold mining town of Steiglitz, arriving 11.15 am and second home of John & Sandy Dynon. There's not a lot left of the old town but it's an interesting walk around, and some good photos can be taken.
Then it's down to the Anakie Roadhouse for lunch arriving about 12.30 pm. It doesn't look much from the outside but inside there is a bar and cafe. It has a certain charm (!) - and they do a late breakfast. We'll try to get away by 1.30 pm and get back via Werribee to Melbourne at 2.30 pm.
Ride suitable for all types of Vespa and rider experience. We'll keep a brisk pace and stick to speed limits. Some short unavoidable 100 kmh stretches. Country back roads with variable bitumen surfaces - so you need to be on the alert. Meeting at the BP SERVO in Brooklyn, Geelong Road.
Depart 9.30 am sharp.

So glad you enjoyed the ride today Anja it certainly was a mix including the dirt roadworks heading into Werribee .....ooops... Was also lovely to have new member Jenni and Steve join us today....hope you guys survived the windy ride to Melton. Hope Lisa got home safely after being bitten by a wasp and Ang and Tufan hope you got a flying trip home after the headwinds in the morning... also Pammie and Gino on their ride back to the Mornington Peninsula direction...
It certainly was a test but the warm weather was a plus. Let's hope the angst with the new management at Anakie dispels over time once they get on their feet.... perhaps tomato and cheese toastie won't be on the menu next time...all a bit hard...LOL....Lovely pic Anja.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL THE DADS.....
This was one of my most favourite trips (besides Sassafras and Torquay): beautiful and diverse scenery, flat areas and mountain tops, llamas and sheep, cows and horses, a portion of adventure (winding, potholed, unpaved roads and the windy highways) and not to forget the exciting ham and tomato sandwich at Anakie General Store !
For those interested, a photo of the 'real Stieglitz' is below, the name of a noble family member, who migrated to Australia, taken from this pretty bird.
Beautiful sunny day ahead.... good riding day....
Yes the weather should be perfect for tomorrow's ride so see you at Meredith Tufan...
I'll meet you al at Meredith - the weather is going to be too good to pass...
Hi Pam, is 8.15 am leaving from the usual servo sounds ok for you?
Will be lovely to have your company, cheers Gino.
There is gold in Steiglitz, and hot food at Anakie
Ok... it's also fathers day, so understand that this may be a smaller ride. But looking forward to riding with a number of first time club riders. If you can make it, come along
Yes it is Father's Day this weekend, so understand that you might be getting spoilt with breakfast in bed, the paper and slippers on the bedside etc etc...but if that isn't happening then come along for a ride.
Geelong people if you want to meet up at along the way please let us know where...
