Ride from Melbourne leaves 9.30 am
Meeting at the United Servo in Brooklyn, Geelong Road.
Cnr Grieve Parade and Geelong Road.
It's a pretty straight forward run, taking the usual way out of Melbourne. But instead of turning right to Bachus Marsh, we'll keep riding straight ahead, taking the road past Rowsley around the back of the Brisbane Ranges. The road through the ranges from Rowsley is quite beautiful but it's unfortunately unsurfaced, that's why we are going round the back! There's some interesting scenery, and a pretty steep incline to ride up. Then across to Meredith arriving at 10.45 am for a quick coffee and stretch. Top up petrol here too - no fuel in Steiglitz and the Anakie pump hasn't worked for years.
From Meredith it's a short ride into the old gold mining town of Steiglitz, arriving 11.15 am and second home of John & Sandy Dynon. There's not a lot left of the old town but it's an interesting walk around, and some good photos can be taken.
Then it's down to the Anakie Roadhouse for lunch arriving about 12.30 pm. It doesn't look much from the outside but inside there is a bar and cafe. It has a certain charm (!) - and they do a late breakfast. We'll try to get away by 1.30 pm and get back via Werribee to Melbourne at 2.30 pm. (Trying to avoid possible rain)
Ride suitable for all types of Vespa and rider experience. We'll keep a brisk pace and stick to speed limits. Some short unavoidable 100 kmh stretches. Country back roads with variable bitumen surfaces - so you need to be on the alert. Bring wet weather gear just in case.
Potential hazards to be discussed at briefing: 1. Doherty's Road, 2. steep incline past Rowsley, 3. RH turn to Meredith - see you at 9.30!

Wear it like a badge of honour Matylda! Only a few of us Very Intrepids ventured out! Makes for memorable riding, and still fun! Good to meet you
