A good short day ride to beautiful Mount Macedon using back roads, and a lot of secret secret short cuts. You'll be amazed to get there and back without a highway. (Leaving aside Hanging Rock for a later event.) 170 Kms all up > See the Route Map here.
However, I will probably change this route to make it more interesting. Suitable for all bikes and rider experience. It's especially good for new riders, or first time club riders. There's a couple of unavoidable short 100 Kph stretches. Promising clear views from the Mount and NO FOG this time.
Meeting at Johnny Pump, 87 Fletcher St Essendon MAP (next to the big roundabout from 9 am for breakfast or coffee. Departing at 10 am
There's a couple of interesting stops along the way to Mount Macedon - a beautiful place, and the ride up to the top - to the Big Cross reserve - is worth the ride itself. The weather is forecast crystal clear for a wonderful view of Melbourne, and there's the blossom dearies!
Lunch will be back in the town at one of the cafes there -we'll try the Trading Post Cafe- or the Pub. before the ride home via Sunbury. But you won't recognize the roads. We might stop for some plane spotting before heading back to Johnny Pump in Essendon at 3.30 PM - we recommend one of their famous Dessert Shakes.
