This is a ride to Bendigo to meet up with our Bendigo crew who are organizing a visit and brunch to the amazing 'Great Stupa of Universal Compassion', a buddhist temple being developed in Myers Flat.
"When completed, the stupa's exterior will be an exact replica of the Great Stupa of Gyantse. It will be 50 metres high and its four sides will each be 50 metres long, making it one of the largest Buddhist monuments in the western world. Buddhists say that viewing the stupa will help purify the mind."
To keep within Bendigo's schedule, this will be a ride up the Calder freeway, leaving Calder Park BP at 8 AM and ariving in Bendigo at around 9.30 AM. We'll meet up with the Bendigo crew and ride with them to the Stupa, staying for approximately 2 hours and having brunch-lunch there before riding back Apologies this time to the slower Vespa in the club.
The Calder is a well designed and easy road to ride. We'll sit on 100 kmh and keep together in the left lane, and we'll make sure you're safe. But your Vespa will need to be able to sit on that 100. At 8 AM the road conditions will be very quiet so enjoy the ride and watch the towns click by. Note that this ride will be postponed if the weather forecast becomes very unfavourable for a Calder ride. So your registration here as 'Going' is essential for any future communication.
There's a lot on in the club this wekend, but all members are welcome to join this ride. We are happy to deviate off and on through say.. Gisborne, or Woodend... to pick up others along the way as long as a prior arrangement has been made.
Meet and Departure:
Meet at the BP Truckstop Servo (Northbound) at Calder Park 'Thunderdome' speedway from 7.30 AM. Fill up here please. As the ride organizer, I'll definitely be there early to welcome you. There's a cafe there as well as the usual fast food chains. Please have breakfast at home or here - this is a ride heading towards a later brunch-lunch. Departing at 8.00 AM sharp, Bendigo bound.
