Hi Brett, the distance from Melbourne to Walhalla is only about 215 kms with a similar return distance via a different route. We usually arrive at Rawson around 2:30-3pm. If you have never been to Walhalla before, it's truly charming. The remnants of a once thriving gold mining town wedged in a steep sided valley. The setting is quite lovely especially with Autumn colours coming on and with lots of history to take in. There's is a great Indiana Jones style train ride which weaves along above Stringers Creek crossing back and forth over several bridges. The accommodation at Rawson is a hoot. A huge building with individual rooms, a common kitchen and playroom - the former quarters for the workers who built the Thompson River Dam. A stroll across the grounds puts you in a bush pub with great food. Come along for a great ride, David
